A Statement of Intent

New Zealand has a problem

We rank second in the OECD for workplace bullying. That is not the kind of global ranking we should be proud of.

For too long we have carried a “toughen up” mentality. Do not complain. Do not speak out. Do not be the “snitch.” Those who do speak up are often punished instead of supported. That culture has left many good people – from the shop floor to the boardroom – living with fear, shame, and silence.

This culture is not just hurting people. It is holding New Zealand back.

Workplace bullying costs us productivity, creativity, and innovation. It drains our economy and our communities. It protects the unproductive few while stopping the talented many from reaching their full potential. Every time a good idea is stifled, every time a promising career is cut short, the whole country loses.

We believe New Zealand can do better

That is why we created Workplace Justice NZ. Our mission is clear: to end bullying and toxic workplaces in Aotearoa. We will campaign and lobby for stronger protections. We will support and educate employers and employees alike. We will work with businesses to build positive workplace cultures. And we will press government for the legal changes needed to create safer, more productive workplaces.
